I've created a new page in the new pages area describing "things I see in student code." Enjoy.

Haven't posted much content in the last year or so, but I haven't given up on this site either. I've just been busy with other things. I've got about 3 half-finished blog entries I hope to finish and post soon.

I am trying out Twitter again, although I'm pretty skeptical. You should be able to see my latest Twitters again somewhere to your left, I think.

To be honest, this post is mostly a test of the Drupal Twitter stuff. I'll report more after I've had some experience with it.

I chose the 'nym "PO8" back in the 1980s at Reed, for use in IRC or Rogue or something; I forget. Basically, it replaced the 'nym I was using at the time, "Black Bart", because the Internet can't see color, and I was afraid that the term "Black" would carry unintended connotations for folks who didn't know the Western referent. So I chose the obscure 'nym the famous stagecoach robber used for himself. I also liked the irony, given the image of geeks at the time.

It's a short 'nym, and yet I figured it would be fairly unique. Imagine my chagrin when I tried to use it as an AOL screen name. There's lots of Po's in Asia; many more than eight, in fact.

Generally, though, PO8 has worked well for me, and I use it in a variety of places to this day.

Of course, no sooner did I upgrade to Drupal 5.3 than 5.4 and 5.5 immediately came out. I stalled around a while, but I've finally got my sites updated. Running Debian's Drupal bits really did help.

If you select the "fobtest" theme from the box on the left of this site as I write (although it may not be by the time you read this), your eyes will be assaulted. Red-on-pink, with a red spray-painted logo. It looks like a joke, and it is. But more than that, it isn't supposed to be here…

I always forget to take notes when I do a Drupal upgrade. This blog entry will be my notes for this upgrade of my home boxes. I will use it in turn to upgrade FOB, and then hopefully use it again when it's time to upgrade again in the future…

I've had it with Drupal's accursed online editing with no means of recovery. I can't work like this anymore…
