Put your headrest up, please!Headrests have been mandated on all US cars for some time now. They're not just a convenience. If you get hit from behind, they will limit the severity of your whiplash and maybe keep you from breaking your neck. Adjust your headrest to hit you square in the back of the head, and enjoy the safety. You have been warned.

Or "Put your headrest down"
I find that seats and headrests are not designed for short people, even the ones in minivans. With the headrest pushed all the way down, the "bump" that is supposed to hit the curve of my neck hits the middle of my skull instead. So this advice is not that useful to me, but thanks anyway.
No, up, really...
As I understand it, the bump is supposed to hit the middle of your skull. If it hits the curve of your neck it's not really going to help, as near as I can figure—your head will still snap back.
I think the only way the headrest can be too high is if it's up on top of your head. If the headrest is hitting the top of your head at its lowest position, the seat back should serve the safety function fine for you.
Perhaps one of the botches the automakers are guilty of is naming the thing a "headrest", when it's really supposed to be a "head motion restraint". One can see why they'd do that, though.
