Summary: don't buy the Creative MuVo N200 256MB MP3 Player…
This unit sort of did what I want for a while, but it had and has all kinds of problems:
- Stupidly overpriced when I bought it for around $100 for 256MB.
- Control knob is awkward, easy to bump wrong way.
- Power button can get repeatedly activated in-pocket, draining the battery.
- Case has battery lid secured by single flimsy plastic tab. I broke mine off; now I have to kludge it to keep the battery in.
- I bought the unit primarily to voice record, but the audio quality is bad and the AGC is awful.
- Had to install firmware to be able to fast-forward and rewind mid-track. Perhaps related to…
- Appears to have just bricked itself in the middle of a download. The filesystem is acting trashed.
Next time, I'll buy something cheaper. Then I won't feel so bad.
Me Too
I sympathize, Bart. I paid roughly the same price for the 512MB model. It lasted 13 months, though performance was spotty. The solution on the msg boards was always "upgrade the firmware" so I did—until one day I was unable to download a song from Walmart without an upgrade. That final upgrade "bricked" the player forever. I'm back to CD's for now, although my $22 Jwin player handles SD cards nicely, and when it dies, it dies.
